While You Sleep

My loves, I kiss you while you sleep
For it is in darkness when I find I often weep I feel so cold inside this place may never warm It is a simple life we’ve lost for which I’ll always mourn

It stole the precious words from their sweet lips And left a shattered mass of sound within their pretty heads How will I help my children to make any sense of this?
In a world that’s often cruel and unaccepting of difference

Forgive me God if I may doubt Your will
Explain her muddled mind to my little girl It cuts me to the bone when she can’t seem to comprehend No matter how she tries and tries, she’ll never fully understand

Every moment of each day that passes by
I’m distracted by this challenge in our lives Do I bid farewell to dreams that seem unreachable Or stare this bastard down, and hurl it back to fiery hell?

As you dream, my loves, I’ll whisper you a story Of how the scientists discover what will set you free They find a cure and give our hearts a chance to mend At peace for once you’d be without autism
